How to fit factory parking sensors system in Citroen C4

I have installed in my Citroen C4 used set of front and rear parking sensors.

Front sensors are activated when driving with speed below 10km/h. Rear sensors are active when reverse gear is on.

Factory set allows full integration of parking system with car computer. Apart from sound warning, car shape is displayed on radio display and for each sensor separately distance to obstacle is shown graphically

NECESARY COMPNENTS:

1) Parking system controller unit

2) Cable and rear sensors

Rear sensors have different shape than front sensors to fit under rear bumper.

3) Cable and front sensors

4) Central cables to connect parking unit with sensors and BSI.

5) Button to turn on/off parking system

It needs to be installed on the fuse box cover (under steering wheel)

6) Sensors holders for front bumper

7) Sensors holders for rear bumper – rear bumper panel

This is panel for 5 door version (Hatchbag). For Coupe variant 2 rear sensors are mounted directly in bumper, and 2 other in panel at the bottom of bumper.

8) “C” type display

9) Radio with parking sensors support option

Not every RD4 radio supports parking sensors. I have changed radio in my car. In old one when I checked via DiagBox that there was no option for parking sensors. In new one there is such option.

10) Access to Lexia / DiagBox

INSTALATION:

First step was finding appropriate wiring diagrams.

There are different variants – generally I found three possible diagrams of parking sensors system. The one for my OPR number was incorrect as it showed connection of the parking unit to BSI with plug that do not exist on BSI.

Remaining two variants are different between each other in a way sensors are connected to parking unit. Connection of parking unit to BSI is the same for both variants. If you have set of parking sensors and parking unit with cables and plugs from the same car then there is no problem. Otherwise it is necessary to recognize variant by checking on what pin there is voltage.

I needed to connect in 18-pin plug (larger of the two that are connected to parking unit) pin 10 with pin 3 in 16VGR BSI plug, 5 with 36 in 40VNR, 14 with 38 in 40VNR. Additionally pin 1 with grounding point (MC60 – mass nearby rear light in trunk).

I secured main cable from breakthrough and place it in cabin pararel to rear lights cable.

It is necessary to connect parking unit to BSI and install button for turning of and on parking sensors. If car has no ESP or AFIL system, than installing the button is more difficult because there is no ready mounting place in fuses cover.

Screws for fixing parking unit are located near spear wheel.

Before installing sensors I have configured parking unit in Lexia and tested it.

It is necessary to disassemble rear bumper. After removing screws from NADKOLI and one screw under bumper, key element in removing bumper are latches at the sides of the bumper. I changed bumper panel to one with holes for sensors.

Quite difficult was putting cable through hole in trunk wall

In front of the car halogen covers in bumper needs to be changed to variant with holes for sensor. In front grill there are in each car holders for mountings of front sensors, but it is necessary to cut holes in the grill so the sensor can fit. In cars that are equipped by factory with front parking sensors, grill is in this places totally removed, but there is no need to make holes that big.

And so it is ready

  1. Hi,

I have a 2009 C4 coupe, and I need to know how did you connect the on/off swith in this case.

    Thanks

  2. In my case, near fuse box on the left side of steering wheel there were several plugs already, not connected anywhere but present there all the same. They are similar between each other, but have slightly different shape. Only one of them fits to parking sensor button. I think it is highly probable that you will have it to, as so far everyone whom asked me about it had them too.
