Comparison of two models from high end producers Ferrari 500 F2 CMC 1:18 and Ferrari 500 F2 Exoto 1:18. Model CMC on the left, red, without racing number.Model CMC is “long nose” body version while Exoto is “short nose” version. that is a reason for longer front in CMC model.
Wheels
Wheels in Ferrari 500 F2 Exoto have bigger diameter than in CMC model. Because of that entire car seams to be bigger (like it was in bigger scale). But apart from wheels model is not bigger. I do not know which wheel size is correct one, but bigger wheels give to this model a better look.
Wheels in Ferrari 500 F2 Exoto have better defined and finer spokes. They look sharper. Also spokes seams to be denser than in CMC. Exoto also has colourful inscriptions on tires. But Exoto wheels seams to be made from plastic. They lack metallic look.
Wheels in Ferrari 500 F2 CMC are evidently made of metal. They seams to be made of more expensive material
I did not attempt to remove wheels fro Exoto. I think they are not removable. Wheels in CMC model are easy to remove.
Model Ferrari 500 F2 CMC has more open-able flaps (4 CMC, 2 Exoto). Maybe it is caused by car version.
Drivers cabin
(First photo of Ferrari 500 F2 CMC 1:18 an just below Ferrari 500 F2 Exoto 1:18)
Model CMC has nicer steering wheel that imitates wood. Additional in Exoto model steering wheel is far away from dashboard. In Exoto there is inscription “500” on dashboard that is not present in CMC.
Wind-shield in CMC do not have screws imitations on it that Exoto’s has. All metal pins in CMC has a little cut on them to imitate screws. Exoto does not has that.
Seats
Cabin from above. Gear shifter mechanism in CMC is far more smaller than in Exoto.
Around seat of Ferrari CMC there are way more details than in ExotoDeep in the cabin CMC I do not see gas pedal that is present in Exoto model.
Breaks hoses by the wheels are nicer in Exoto. Also exhaust pipe material is nicer in Exoto model.
“Ferrari” logo is nicer in CMC. It is separate element, not painted on body and flat like in Exoto.
Fuel cap in CMC made from stainless steel looks better than in Exoto
From below Ferrari 500 F2 CMC model is much more detailed and interesting than Exoto
Engine
Engine in Exoto looks slightly better than on CMC model
Fuel tank in CMC model made from stainless steel and with leather straps looks much better than in Exoto.
Model Exoto comes with crank and additional transparent plastic engine cover that CMC do not has.
Couple of photos of Ferrari 500 F2 CMC 1:18 and Ferrari 500 F2 Exoto 1:18
I like the CMC Model the most. The Exoto does not look like it is to scale but it maybe a different version? I have to look at the real pictures of both car s to be sure.
Thanks for the review.
I agree with you comment completely Dave and prefer the CMC model. Also I have it in my collection.
No.
The CMC stands too high on its wheels, which are also too small relative to the car’s body size.
The dimensions of the Exoto are much more balanced and the silhouette is far better.
Don’t be distracted by the quality of a few minor details; do look at the real pictures. Overall the Exoto captures the 500 F2’s appearance much more accurately, from every angle.
In spite of some nicely executed details, the CMC is off the mark. In comparison it’s suspension is rather coarsely executed. On the whole the CMC looks more like a model of a pedal car than of the real thing.
Look again: the Exoto clearly wins hands down, for every knowledgeable viewer easy to see (specially the long nose version). Suspension, engine, (thinness of the) steering wheel and so on and on -much more realistic.
I have them both, but my choice for best one is clear! Now there’s another nice one out from Tecnomodel (also 1:18 scale), but the Exoto is still best by far. And it is commanding higher collector’s prices for good reason….
